My rule of thumb (actually both thumbs): NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER BUY A HOUSE BUILT AFTER 1980s ....ever. I've owned 15 houses, not one built after1980. I would not give you 2 cents for them unless I wanted to commit slow suicide.

In the 1980s they started using chemicals in everything, gluing wood together, using toxic paints, etc. That beautiful carpet you just installed ... highly toxic. That plastic and vinyl wrap that building departments make you wrap your house in ... super toxic and worse, doesn't allow fresh air in. That chemical you apply to your hardwood floors, instead of using linseed oil, walnut oil, etc --- deadly.

All 1980 and onward products off-gas. A new house will be deadly, even if you built it yourself.

That 'new car' smell you love -- you might as well swallow cyanide. Even worse, because people roll up the windows tight and put the air conditioner on to circulate the 1000 chemical gases.

The old folks used only real wood, real rock and never sealed their houses tight. They used varnish and used natural plants for colorings.

They had drafts...that's how they got fresh air circulated through the house, the toxins were removed and they were soooo healthy.

Today, most clothes is made out of chemicals and plastic, which is why the ad says 'I just washed my clothes and it still stinks' -- that off-gassing chemical smell.

Incredible how they are having us think that what we have today is good for us, as we drop dead of all sorts of cancers and heart issues by 45 years old.

If I was younger, I would buy myself a good horse and buggy and use that -- I use to train horses professionally and had a whole collection of antique buggies. Those were the days when we actually had a life.

Ok, I hear you laughing ... but I'm having the last laugh.

Thank you for bringing common sense to this issue. The understanding that bacteria, mold, yeast, fungi, and parasites are not out to get us, but show up when toxins and material breakdown are happening is so important. Instead we learn that they are predators and we are their prey! "Be very afraid." It is such nonsense!
